Hormone Replacement Therapy
(HRT)
As people age, their hormone levels fluctuate and decrease with time, and this can interfere with quality of life. Imbalances can result in loss of energy, increased irritability, sleeplessness, memory problems, hot flashes, weight gain, low sex drive, and inability to perform and enjoy intimate sexual relations.
BHRT is not just for women experiencing menopause and post-menopause problems; both men and women will often start dropping their hormone levels in the early 30s. Men with andropause can benefit from HRT, in addition to those with other hormonal imbalances.
HRT introduces specific hormones into the patient’s body to help maintain an optimal level and reduce symptoms of hormone deficiencies. These hormones may be synthetic or bioidentical.

BHRT Difference
BHRT) uses hormones derived from plant sources and they have the same chemical structure and biological action as those naturally produced by the body. As such, they react in the same way.
They do not interact with other medications or have different side effects from your own natural hormones.
At Radiant Life we use primarily BHRT, but it is not appropriate in every circumstance, and we work with each individual patient to find what is best for them.
Estradiol
Pellets
Estradiol implants are formed by compressing bio-identical estrogen into very small cylinders a little larger than a grain of rice, approximately 3 millimeters in diameter. Estradiol pellets avoid what is known as “First Pass Effect” experienced with oral hormones and thus avoid the risks and side effects of oral therapy.
Once the pellets are placed they are very gradually absorbed by the body releasing a continuous slow trickle of hormone into the system, giving very stable levels of hormone for 3 or more months, without daily fluctuations seen with other methods. Most ladies receiving pellet HRT do very well with replacement every 4 months, only 3 treatments per year.
Testosterone
Pellets
Testosterone implants are formed by compressing bio-identical testosterone into very small cylinders a little larger than a grain of rice, approximately 3 to 4 millimeters in diameter. As with estrogen pellets, the testosterone is released in a tiny amount into the system continuously.
The hormone levels are consistent regardless of illness or injury or other factors that affect oral therapy. Pellet therapy ensures that each patient receives the benefit of a steady accurate hormone dose for as long as 6 months. Most men only need pellet replacement twice a year.

While there is a wide range in lab reference ranges, (“normal ranges”), for hormone levels at each age, BHRT can allow people to maintain an optimal level for their body, enhancing their wellbeing. Research based optimal ranges are often quite different from lab derived reference ranges. Bioidentical hormones can be compounded to each person’s individual needs to balance any hormone deficiencies. Hormone levels are checked using blood, saliva, or urine samples. Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy is a method of replacing missing or deficient hormones with biologically identical hormones (i.e. plant-derived hormones that are created to precisely match hormones produced naturally in the body).
At Radiant Life Medical Spa we provide BHRT pellet therapy. Pellet therapy offers many advantages over conventional methods of HRT. It is very convenient as the patient only needs 2 or 3 treatments per year. The hormone levels are very stable and avoid fluctuations of hormone noted with daily or weekly dosing. They are not affected by illness or injury and are providing benefit even when traveling or away from home for extended periods of time.
